True differentiates itself as the only site to routinely conduct background searches to uncover felons and members who claim to be single but are married. True offers a battery of personality tests followed with a matching function based on the results.  Site clutter, misleading communication from True, and a smaller membership than comparable sites, places True near the bottom of TopTenREVIEWS’ online dating site rankings.

Dating Pool Potential:  

True does not post members online, but messages received were significantly fewer than on the other online dating sites, indicating a smaller dating pool. According to Quantcast, an independent online ratings firm, True’s visitors are more likely to be men, 46% earn over $60,000 per year, and visitors are older than most of the other online dating sites. True’s visitor profile is most similar to Singlesnet. 

Profiles:  

Allow extra time to fully complete the profile. In addition to basic information, posting a photo and several essays, you’ll have the opportunity to complete four additional tests measuring a variety of personal characteristics. As a reward, you’ll receive an analysis of your type, both your strengths and areas you might consider improving. 

Matching/Searching:  

The True profiles correlate well with the types of searches you may conduct. Do basic searches or keyword searches, and search by personality, communication, sexual, romantic and commitment styles based on the evaluations you took when you signed up. Many one-click searches are available. Results include a rainbow colored bar chart that shows the percentage of compatibility when comparing your results with the member you’ve chosen. Click on the chart for an explanation. 

Communication & Additional Services:  

Email alerts sent to your personal email list the True user’s screen name as the sender, which can easily be mistaken for junk mail. Click to go directly to your inbox where the photos are so small, you’ll have to click over to the profile to see the sender

True may send messages to members from you without your knowledge. My inbox was filled with messages opening with “thanks for the wink” and “thanks for contacting me” when I had not contacted these True members. You may feel like you’re off to a great start, but this practice is misleading.

True offers a coaching center, tips and advice and information on safer dating. These tabs could be combined into one tab to streamline the True online dating site. 

Ease of Use:  

True is cluttered making navigation difficult and smaller photos mean more clicks to determine whether you are interested in another True member. 

Help & Support:  

True offers a FAQs section, telephone support and email. Your email will most likely be answered with an automated response based on your topic selection from the drop down menu. 

Summary:  

True may be more stringent in disqualifying unsuitable members and offer interesting insight into your personality, but the dating pool potential is simply not equal to higher ranked sites.
